Image & Form Joins Forces with Steam Powered Giraffe
The devs at Image & Form finally reveal their SteamWorld Heist collaboration with musical geniuses Steam Powered Giraffe.
Yes, the rumors have been true: Steam Powered Giraffe is working on the soundtrack for Image & Form’s multi-platform space strategy adventure SteamWorld Heist, due in spring 2015. The quirky San Diego-based band (that just so happens to feature humans parading as antique singing automatons) will not only make the songs and in-game music for SteamWorld Heist, but will also be featured in the game as a troupe that Captain Piper and her crew encounter in bars while recruiting fighters. Image & Form CEO Brjann Sigurgeirsson is happy: “A SteamWorld game about steam-powered robots featuring real-world steam-powered robots. It's perfect!”
In addition, while out in the field on a heist mission, you’ll be able to collect sheet music containing Steam Powered Giraffe songs which you can later play on a jukebox in Captain Piper’s ship – thus allowing you to select which tunes grace your ears as background music.
This match made in steampunk heaven came as a stroke of luck. Brjann elaborates: “I met with SPG at E3 in June to seal the deal, and since I love their music I have to admit I was a bit starstruck. But it turned out they loved our games as well. We're very much alike, childish and pretty resourceful. They wear a bit more makeup at times, is all.”
The band agrees: “Luckily, make-up aside, our mechanical cog-filled hearts were in synch. When asked if we would like to collaborate with Image and Form on their next SteamWorld game we immediately said yes! We loved SteamWorld Dig, and a steam-powered robot band making music for a steam-powered robot game? Count us in!” says David Michael Bennett (The Spine) of Steam Powered Giraffe.
David is positive about working with Image & Form: “It’s a unique and enjoyable experience for the band. There is definitely a ton of passion going into the game, from them, from us, it’s a labor of love and we personally can’t wait to share our contributions to the game with the world.”
Check out the first ever music video for “Prepare for Boarding”, the first song from SteamWorld Heist, featuring Steam Powered Giraffe in all of their steam-powered glory.

Hello all! David Michael Bennett here! I play the silver robot, The Spine in the band Steam Powered Giraffe! I just wanted to give you all an update on some new stuff we've got coming your way in 2014!
We are pleased to announce the premiere of the official Steam Powered Giraffe Comic! It's coming your way in the form of page-by-page updates starting today! The comic, which delves into the back story of the robot characters in the band, is written by the the band itself and is illustrated by Bunny Bennett (Rabbit) and Samuel Luke (Hatchworth). It will be updated routinely and published online for all of you to view and read for free, page by page as the pages are completed.
A few of you might have seen the early stages of this comic that we posted in the past, but there have been extensive changes to the group since its beginning four years ago and we couldn't be more excited to finally be bringing it to you all!
Some might be wondering where the character Rabbit is in the comic teaser image above...
Well Rabbit is actually in there! He's the automaton girl. You see, Rabbit is now going to be a female robot instead of a male robot.
This gender change will be reflected in our live shows going forward and you can expect to see the changes starting this year in 2014.
There will be a transition period in our live shows where the female Rabbit character design is developed, and then, like a lot of things in our act, will organically change as the act progresses: Costume, makeup; the whole deal.
It'll be an abrupt change for some fans for sure, but you can rest easy knowing that the Rabbit character isn't going anywhere. He's simply becoming a she.
We're all progressively minded here in Steam Powered Giraffe, and we hope the change is taken as softly as when Hatchworth or Rabbit got a new jacket, or when The Spine had a mustache installed on him that one time for one show, or when he grew giant stegosaurus spines out of his back. No big deal right? Well, maybe those are hard comparisons to this instance, but I'd personally like to think it's no big deal. And that's the collective viewpoint in the band.
It's a step forward for us and those of you who know a bit about the band will know that we support LGBT+ rights in our personal lives. For all our differences, we all the same and nothing relating to stuff like this makes anyone in the world different than anyone else. We're all human.
While our act is not specifically focusing on these issues, we do like to be progressive and show that we are accepting of everyone and that we welcome the differences that make us all human and beautiful.
With a new year and change in the air, we also have a new live show DVD coming out early this year of our Walter Robotics Expo show that took place over the summer of 2013. We think it will serve as a good snapshot of 2013 and the excellent milestone brought in with Sam and Matt's arrival and for the band's ongoing changes that we keep pumping out.
(I am sure it's only a matter of time before The Spine grows a tail and turns into a dinosaur).
As artists we want to add, improve, and continue creating entertainment for all of our fans to enjoy, and it makes us happy to do what we love and share it with all of you.
And with that, I'd like to thank all of you for your continued support and all of the love you give us each and every day in the form of emails, comments, reblogs, fan mail, gifts, and in-person dialog with us at live shows. We love you all! Happy New Year. We look forward to the next!

The World’s Greatest Steampunk Festival!
Concert is 10pm on Saturday the 18th, in the Midway Grand Tent immediately following the "Centennial Exhibition Ball!"
When the World’s Fair started, there were many great Steampunk conventions, but few festivals. The Steampunk World's Fair were one of the first Steampunk festivals in the world and they remain one of very few festivals – and, perhaps, the best.
What might make this one the best? It’s not simply the fact that they are, arguably, the largest event of this kind – but they are filling two hotels with an unbelievable amount of entertainment! Both the Radisson and the Embassy Suites in Piscataway New Jersey.
This unique opportunity puts the robots of Steam Powered Giraffe with Abney Park in Everett, Washington. Hurry and reserve your seats! VIP tickets are sold out and general admission is almost gone!
Wild West Fest sees the end of the month on Friday, April 27th at Calico Ghost Town. The robots will be attending to bring more Steampunk Western flare to the event's busy weekend! Tickets will be sold at the door. The concert is at 6 PM.
Don't forget to plan for a San Diego Summer, because Gaslight III is in May and Steam Powered Giraffe is about to announce their Comic-Con plans!
A big thank-you to everyone who came to our recent San Diego show Saturday, February 16th- you made it a huge success! The new venue was such a hit, we've booked it again on Thursday, July 18th during Comic-Con! We'll have more details on this show soon, but for now there are still several opportunities to catch the robots again!
March 8th - 10th is Wild Wild West Con in Tucson, Arizona and the robots will be performing with Abney Park during the Saturday night concert! You'll also be able to attend SPG panels, photo ops, and autograph sessions the entire weekend!
April sees the premiere of the highly anticipated "Spring in Sepia" show starring the robots and Abney Park in Everett, Washington. The show promises to be a rocking experience with two of the steampunk scene's most unique bands. But hurry and reserve your seats! VIP tickets have already sold out and general admission is rapidly exhausting!
May leads into Steam Powered Giraffe's first east coast performance in New Jersey, followed by San Jose, Chicago, and even more shows to keep your Summer and Fall roboticized!
We've been busy adding tons of shows for this year and we hope you'll join us at a few of them and share in the robotic-goodness. We have quite a bit of updates today!

While there are still quite a few other shows after that and before April, we'd like to take the time to remind you of one particularly epic show. Steam Powered Giraffe will once again be performing with Abney Park in Everett Washington for a one-night-only performance April 13. It's going to be quite the theater concert spectacular, and we can't wait to share the epicness with you all!
We've got a ton of other shows on the horizon and we keep adding more! Just take a gander over to our "Upcoming shows" and peek at our Show Calendar to the right! As other shows drawn closer we'll update you on them and their details through this website. On two last notes...
We are busily replenishing our merchandise supply and should have all of our CDs and DVDs back in stock within a few weeks. We'll also have more T-shirt sizes and hoodies back in-stock sometime in February, along with more wristbands. The holidays cleared out our supplies and we can't thank you all enough for your support!
